How much product do I need to treat my yard?
How do I use Benesafe® Backyard Bug Barrier?
What are the ingredients?

Benesafe® is made with four simple, but effective ingredients; cedarwood oil, citronella oil, deionized water, and plant-derived sodium lauryl sulfate. The composition can be found on the front of the bottle label.

What natural ingredients make Benesafe® effective?

The two pest control ingredients in our product are Cedarwood Oil and Citronella Oil. Cedarwood oil derived from the wood of the juniper tree (Juniperus mexicana) repels and kills scent-driven insects, such as mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. These insects, as well as many others, need the pheromone octopamine to maintain necessary life functions (respiration, metabolism, reproduction, movement, etc.) the cedarwood oil blocks the octopamine receptors causing the insects to die. Fortunately, beneficial insects like bees and butterflies are not affected. The oil from cedarwood also alters insect pH balance, breaks down the fat that insects need to survive, and causes insects to dry out through a process called osmotic dehydration.

Citronella oil derived from hardy grasses (Cymbopogon nardus) works to repel scent-driven insects by masking the scents that are attractive to insects. Combined, both ingredients work against pests in your yard and garden giving you peace of mind when spending time outside!

Can the Benesafe® Backyard Bug Barrier be used inside the home too?

Our spray is only intended for the outdoor use, as it has not been tested for indoor use and is not guaranteed indoors. Please follow label directions when using our product as it is a pest control product.

Can the yard spray get rid of stray cats, hornets, horse flies, geckos, wasps, mice, and other outdoor animals?

This product’s intended use is to defend against Mosquitoes, Fleas, and Ticks. Please use this product as directed.

What pests can this spray repel and kill besides fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes?

There is some evidence that cedarwood oil can be used to treat ants, chiggers, flies, gnats, and beetles. However, this product’s intended use is to defend against Mosquitoes, Fleas, and Ticks.

What is the odor of this product?

The product has a natural aroma derived from its essential oil ingredients, cedarwood oil and citronella oil.

Is this spray intended to kill pests?

Yes, this spray is intended to inhibit the life cycle of targeted pests listed on the bottle, including mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks when used as directed.

How effective are natural sprays when compared to chemical ones?

The efficacy of this product is expected to be less than harsh chemical sprays, but with proper and frequent use, Benesafe® Backyard Bug Barrier is effective against mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks without the potential to be harmful to people, pets, and the environment when used as directed.

For how long does it repel mosquitoes?

Effectiveness varies based on many factors including temperature, rain, the presence of stagnant water, etc. It is recommended that you use this product as often as needed to control your mosquito, flea, and tick problem.

Does the pest spray harm vegetation or cause any stains?

If used as directed, this spray will not harm plants or vegetation. It is possible to induce phytotoxic burn to vegetation if applied during high heat and direct sunlight. Do not spray during the hottest part of the day to avoid burn.

Does this spray harm fish, birds, and wildlife?

Cedarwood oil and citronella oil are proven to have minimal risk to non target wildlife and fish. When used as directed, this spray will not be harmful to fish, birds and other wildlife.

How does Benesafe® Backyard Bug Barrier effect bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators?

Cedarwood oil affects octopamine, which is essential to life for pheromone-driven pests (especially mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks). Octopamine plays an important role in the invertebrate nervous system. It is responsible for regulating  vital functions such as heart rate, movement, and behavior in pests. Cedarwood oil blocks the octopamine neurotransmitter receptors in pests, which kills the target insects upon contact. Cedarwood oil is safe for non-point-of-contact animals and beneficial insects (bees and other pollinators) because they do not utilize octopamine neurotransmitters in the same way. Pets and people should avoid contact with treated areas until the surfaces sprayed are dry.

Can I use this product if it is raining?
